Dog Bathing & Hygiene - Poor Hygiene In Dogs

Dr. Odet Kaspari-Chiriboga

What are some signs and symptoms of poor hygiene in my dog?

The main thing that you're going to notice, and a lot of people notice, is malodors. There will be malodors of the mouth and the skin, and they get really itchy because of all that bacteria building up. That yeast smell, especially, is really bad. Also, if you have a doggy that has poor teeth or dental disease, they will have a hard time chewing. If you would like to come in, we can show you how to brush your dog's teeth. It takes about two weeks for the plaque to turn into tartar. Once it turns into tartar, it's harder to brush off, and it becomes stone-hard. We can guide you and clean the teeth for you, so you can have a clean canvas. That's when you can start brushing their teeth. We can show you products that can help you keep them clean and also help you choose products for the skin if there are skin problems and you don't know what to wash them with. We'll show you how to hopefully give them a clean and shiny coat.
